Why does Life Church of Athens exist?

Simply put: Love God. Love our neighbors. Make disciples. We want to draw people who are near and far from God into experiencing true life in Christ. We are committed to making a difference in the Athens community, and we want you to partner with us on this exciting journey! Join us for strong Biblical teaching, fresh and inspiring worship, and an atmosphere of true community. Pastor Tim Vaughn

  1. Tim Vaughn and WifeDate, Place of Birth: November 14, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia
  2. Places (states) lived in: Whew! Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Germany (over 10 years!), Florida, and now back in the Promised Land of Athens, Georgia. Go Dawgs!!!
  3. Education: Bachelor of Arts in History from UNC-Charlotte in 1977, Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983, and Doctor of Theology from Slidell Baptist Seminary (not federally accredited) in 2003.
  4. Salvation Experience: Almost 9yrs. old, after my grandfather just died, I began to think about heaven and hell and life after death - asked Jesus into my heart about one month later. I was baptized the last Sunday night of September in 1966 at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN.
  5. Work/Ministry experiences: LOTS! Secular - construction, landscaping, college admissions, retail sales, teaching, and public relations. Ministry - youth pastor, associate pastor, senior adult pastor, missionary church planter in Germany, regional missions strategist for Western Europe, and a senior pastor.
  6. Favorite Things about Life Church: The air of excitement and expectation, the music, the cookouts, the informality, the closeness, the kids, and most of all - the PEOPLE of Life!
  7. Family Members: My wife Kim (married in Aug., 1980), and our daughters, Mackenna (b.1985) and Lauren (b.1988). And our dogs Amos, Sadie, and Morgan.
  8. Hobbies: Baseball, baseball memorabilia, love to travel, hang out with friends, music, and study/teach the Bible.
    BOOKS: Some of my favorites are Halftime, Unveiled At Last, and Perimeters of Light.
    MUSIC: Soul, Motown, Bluegrass, Contemporary Country, Contemporary Christian, Classical, Jazz, and Oldies – everything but Rap.
  9. Secret Ambition: To be a best-selling author, and maybe to be the Chaplain for the Atlanta Braves - even for one day!
