Staff - Stephen Chaney

  1. Date, Place of Birth: April 15, 1980 in Augusta, Georgia.
  2. Places (states) lived in:  Georgia, Colorado (took a year off to wrangle horses and ski slopes).
  3. Education: Bachelor of Science in Physics May 2003 from Augusta State University.  Doctorate of Philosophy in Physics specializing in Condensed Matter—University of Georgia 2008,9,10…  I don’t know, one day I will graduate.
  4. Salvation Experience: To make an extremely long story short.  When I was 14 years old, I almost died from Alcohol Poisoning.  I passed out as an Atheist.  When I woke up the next morning I believed in GOD, and knew that it was Jesus that saved me.  No preachers, no sermons.  Just GOD at work.  Ever since then, I have been working out my Salvation from God by grace through faith. 
  5. Work/Ministry experiences: I have NEVER worked in Germany.  But I have had a myriad of jobs here in the USA.  I grew up working construction with my father.  It was this experience from the age of 8 to 18 that solidified my resolve to go to college and be paid for my brains and not my brawn.  Not that brawn is bad; you just don’t get paid what you’re worth.  I worked in Colorado as a Wrangler, Cook, Doorman, Entertainer, and Ski bum (an official job in Colorado).  Although I am a youngster here at Life church, I have been in Ministry since the age of 15.  At Steven’s Creek Church in Augusta, Georgia I was a member of the drama ministry and the worship ministry and the creative team.  On occasion I would fill in for a vacant guitarist or vocalist, and from my experience there I was blessed to be mentored by Todd Sturgell, a phenomenal music minister.  I owe anything that I do well to his example and friendship.
  6. Favorite Things about Life Church: First, it’s the people who make Life Church what it is.  They are my most favorite thing.  Second, and I am a little biased, it’s the music.
  7. Family Members: I am married to the beautiful Erica Chaney and together we have 3 wonderful children: Isabella, Sophia, and Nathanael.
  8. Hobbies: Golf, Softball, Hiking/Camping, Guitar, going anywhere fun with my kids. 
  9. Secret Ambition:  Now, if I told you, then it wouldn’t be a secret.  How about this? I would like to become a good enough golfer to play on the PGA tour right along side of Mark Palmer.
