Why does Life Church of Athens exist?

The purpose of Life Church is to help people discover and experience the abundant life found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Our desire is for that relationship to be expressed in the community of Athens, the state of Georgia, and the world.

Membership Orientation

At Life Church, we take membership seriously and hope you will as well. It is certainly expected that each member will have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and has followed Him in believer’s baptism. If you will then make it known to the pastor that you are interested in becoming a part of the Life Church family, he or a leadership team member will schedule a time to speak with you in order to get to know you better and to allow you a time to ask as many questions as you might have. There are also three basic classes to be completed for anyone desiring membership. First – “What We Believe about Salvation and Baptism”. Second – “What We Believe about Essential Doctrines of the Faith”. And third – “Expectations of a Life Church Member”. These classes will be offered on Sunday mornings before the worship service. If necessary, other arrangements may also be made directly with the pastor. A copy of the Life Church membership covenant can be seen below, or you can find a printable copy here.

The Life Church of Athens Membership Covenant

Having received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, having been baptized by immersion and having accepted God's Word alone as the standard by which all matters of belief and conduct are to be decided, and being in agreement with the statements, strategy, and structure of Life Church of Athens, I, being led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the fellowship of Life Church of Athens, commit myself to God and to the other members of this church to do the following:

1. I WILL PROTECT THE UNITY OF MY CHURCH

By acting in love toward other members, 1 Pet. 1:22.

By refusing to gossip, Eph. 4:29.

By following its leaders, Heb. 13:17.

By submitting to its discipline, Matt. 18:15-17.

2. I WILL SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MY CHURCH

By praying for its growth, 1 Thes.1:2.

By inviting the unchurched to attend, Luke 14:23.

By warmly welcoming those who visit, Rom. 15:7.

3. I WILL SERVE THE MINISTRY OF MY CHURCH

By discovering my gifts and talents, 1 Pet. 4:10.

By being equipped to serve by my pastors, Eph. 4:11-12.

By developing a servant's heart, Phil. 2:2-4, 7.

4. I WILL SUPPORT THE TESTIMONY OF MY CHURCH

By attending faithfully, Heb. 10:25.

By living a Godly life, Phil. 1:27.

By giving regularly, 1 Cor. 16:2, Lev. 27:30.
