Our Purpose“Awana Clubs exist at Life Church of Athens to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.” Registration, Check-in, and Pick-upParents, your child’s safety is of upmost importance to us at Life Church. We use a numbered tag system to insure that only you or someone you have designated is picking up your child from Awana Club. Please come inside each week for both check-in and pickup. If your child attends the after school program at Barnett Shoals Elementary, you may arrange to have your child dismissed directly from After School to Awana at 6:00 p.m. What do you do at Awana?Following supper which is served at 6:00 p.m., your child will have a great time playing unique games, progressing through a handbook, and receiving positive affirmation from his peers and leaders. Awana teaches teamwork, helps clubbers grow in personal responsibility, introduces many important moral and spiritual concepts from the Bible, and is a resource for parents in the development of their child. What do you bring and how do you dress for Awana? Each week a clubber should wear their uniform and bring their handbook and a Bible. Clubbers should wear comfortable clothes that are okay for active play. Clubbers should wear athletic shoes in order to participate in game time in the gym. Club Dues and Total Cost of ProgramThe amount of dues for the entire school year is $30.00. Clubbers may bring $1.00 per week or parents may pay the total amount at any time. In addition to dues clubbers will purchase a handbook ($8.00) and a uniform ($10.00 to $20.00) at some point during the club year. Life Church covers the other costs of the program including supper which is served at no charge each week at 6:00 p.m. Club Age Divisions
Awana HandbooksALL CLUBBERS begin with an introductory booklet given to them on their first club visit:
CUBBIES progress through their handbooks as a group according to a weekly schedule. All Cubbies regardless of age work in the same handbook completing the section of the week. These sections are called BEAR HUGS. The curriculum rotates on a two year schedule - Hopper and Jumper. SPARKS progress at their own individual pace through a series of three handbooks. Sparks begin with the first handbook no matter which grade they are in when they join Sparks. Sparks may complete multiple handbooks up to their current grade level. Once the current grade level book is completed the clubber begins extra credit work. The three handbooks for Sparks are: K-5, Skipper; 1st Grade, Hiker; and 2nd Grade, Climber. T&T clubbers progress at their own individual pace through a series of four handbooks. T&T’s may complete multiple handbooks up to their current grade level. Once the current grade level book is completed the clubber begins extra credit work. The four grade level handbooks are simply known as Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, and Book 4. Teamwork and DisciplineThe most important rule of discipline for all Awana club leaders is to use lots of positive reinforcement. Awana is designed so that every child is encouraged and affirmed. Awana is fast-paced and fun and keeps boys and girls engaged in the club activities. As in any group activity, the leaders help your child stay focused so that your child gets the most out of his Awana club experience. THE AWANA FIVE COUNTThe 5 count is used to call a group to attention. The leader initiating a 5 count raises his hand and counts aloud slowly while also showing the count with his fingers. Other leaders raise their hand and follow the count with their fingers but do not count out loud. Clubbers do not raise their hand. EVERYONE stops what they are doing and gives attention to the leader initiating the count. When the group is responding well, the count will rarely go past 3. THE AWANA THREE COUNTThe 3 count is a means of maintaining individual discipline and helping clubbers to focus on club activities. Should individual discipline become necessary, here is how the 3 count works:
